GANDHINAGAR: During the budget session on Friday, the state government told the Gujarat assembly that 5,975km of Narmada canal work was pending as of December 31, 2022.
Work on the Narmada main canal and branch canals is complete except for 0.9km of the branch canal network, the government told the house on Friday. The pending works are for distributary canals, minor canals and sub-minor canals, the government said.
In reply to a written question from Congress MLA Arjun Modhwadia, the CM, who holds the Narmada portfolio, told the house that a 63,521km of canal work has been completed and 5,975km of work is pending.
Modhwadia sought to know by when the entire canal network would be complete. In reply, the government said that “...it will be completed at the earliest. The process of seeking permissions from various departments for land acquisition and setting up other utilities is on for minor canals and will be completed at the earliest,” the reply said.
Regarding sub-minor canals, the work is being done with participation of farmers and will be completed in a phased manner after getting consent from farmers, the reply said.
