Charu Sinha first woman to head CRPF southern sector in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Telangana cadre 1996 batch IPS officer Charu Sinha on Friday took over as inspector general of CRPF southern sector. Sinha, who was serving as IG, CRPF Srinagar sector, is the first woman IPS officer to head the southern sector. CRPF southern sector head office is located in Hyderabad.
An alumna of St Francis College for Women, Kundanbagh, where she did her graduation, Sinha later completed her post-graduation from the University of Hyderabad.
In 2020, Sinha becmae the first woman officer to be appointed to oversee anti-terror operations in CRPF Srinagar sector. After serving for more than two years in Srinagar sector, Sinha will now head the southern sector, primarily handling the anti-Naxalite operations in southern states. Sinha also worked as IG in Jammu sector before she was transferred to Srinagar sector.
"She had earlier served as IG in terror-infested Jammu sector for around a year before being posted to Srinagar sector where she served for two-and-a-half years. Sinha was also the first woman CRPF IG to command CRPF Bihar and oversaw anti-Naxal operations. Prior to being deputed to CRPF, she handled various positions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh," CRPF officials said.
