Murder accused arrested in Kerala
Mangaluru: In a joint operation undertaken by the Mangaluru city police and Kasaragod police of Kerala, a murder accused was arrested from Kasaragod on Thursday. The accused is Shifas,30, a resident of Chemancheri, Pookad, in Kozhikode.
It may be recalled that Raghavendra Acharya, an employee of Mangalore Jewellers, was murdered by an unknown person on February 3. The owner of the shop informed the police, that some of the items from the shop were missing. The police had seen the suspect based on CCTV footage from a nearby shop. A case in this regard was registered under various IPC sections, at the Mangaluru North police station. DCP (law and order) Anshu Kumar stated that multiple teams were formed, and CCTV footage was examined, mobile tower dump data was analysed, various lodges and hotels were checked, and details of suspects involved with similar modus operandi were examined. The suspect’s movement was traced to Kasaragod, based on the CCTV camera footage, and the same was widely published throughout Karnataka and Kerala.
On Thursday, based on a tip-off, he was arrested in Kasargod. After a detailed inquiry, that went on till late in the night, the suspect confessed to the crime. A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused committed the murder with the intention of robbery. After committing the offence, he had gone back to Kozhikode, and was absconding since then.
He allegedly came to Kasaragod on Thursday with the same intention, as he was found wearing multiple layers of clothes when arrested. The accused worked in Dubai between 2014 -2019. He was admitted for a diploma in mechanical engineering course at a college in Mangaluru, but left midway, after two years. His two brothers are in Dubai, and he stays in Kozhikode with his father, mother, wife and daughter.
