NAGPUR: Crime branch's anti-narcotics cell intercepted two peddlers, Kunal Gavhane and Gaurav Kaleshwarrao, carrying Mephedrone drugs worth around ₹2 crore in their moped by laying a trap on Nagpur-Wardha Road in the wee hours of Friday. The consignment was coming from Mumbai via Wardha. This is one of the biggest narcotics haul by the city police.
It's learnt the crime branch under DCP Mummakka Sudarshan, under supervision of CP Amitesh Kumar, were tracking the drug syndicate for the last several months.
Police have now unearthed a bigger racket which is operated by a hard-core criminal, Pankaj Charde from Nagpur, who had been shuttling between Nagpur and Mumbai.
Charde, with 14 offences registered against him, is said to be the mastermind in a statewide MD drug cartel worth crores of rupees.
Charde, a resident of a slum in Pardi, is learnt to have risen to one of the biggest MD suppliers to Nagpur operating from Mumbai.
Charde was sending the consignment to one Nandkishor Kumbhalkar, a money-lender with crime records, through Gavhane and Kaleshwarrao.
Apart from Gavhane and Kaleshwarrao, police have also booked Charde, Akshay Yeole and Kumbhalkar.
