Class X board exam begins in Assam, over 4 lakh students appear
GUWAHATI: Class 10 board exam begun in Assam on Friday. A total of 4,22,174 candidates appeared in the exam this year of which 1,94,054 are males.
A total of 27,647 students appeared the exam in Barpeta district, which is the highest, while only 3,037 appeared the exam in the river island district of Majuli, said Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) secretary and exam controller Naranarayan Nath.
Last year, 4.05 lakh students appeared in the exam of which around 2.29 lakh passed.
Meanwhile, an alleged question paper leak of English on Friday created controversy in the state. However, education minister Ranjo Pegu as well as SEBA secretary have termed it to be false. Pegu said he had personally checked the matter and found it to be baseless.
Speaking to the media, Nath said, “The reports about the leak of the English question paper is false and baseless. We are taking utmost care and maintaining vigil. Hence, the question of question paper leak doesn’t arise. Moreover, the question paper that went viral on social media was circulated almost two hours after the exam started. Had it been in the morning hours, one can claim it as a leak.”
He stated that the pictures doing the rounds on social media were shared from Barpeta district and accordingly, the school inspector has been directed to look into the matter.
