THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Valiyathura police on Friday arrested one more person in connection with the abduction of an NRI Muhayuddin Abdul Khader from the airport and snatching lakhs of rupees from him last week.
Safeena Beevi of Kuzhivilakathu Veedu at Poykavila near Chirayinkeezhu, mother of the first accused Insha Abdul Wahad, was arrested after it was revealed during the investigation that she was part of the conspiracy. After snatching Rs 15.70 lakhs from Muhayuddin, Safeena planned ways to withdraw the money from the account and to keep it at safer zones.
She handed over Rs 7 lakhs from the ransom to a relative, who lives next to their house. The police have recovered the money from the relative. However, the police said the relative was ignorant of the source of the money.
They got clues about the involvement of Safeena in the fraud after examining her WhatsApp chat with her daughter Insha, and her son Ashique, second accused, and the friends of Ashique.
Soon after the accused were arrested, Safeena had met an advocate and paid him lakhs of rupees in advance to save her children. The money paid to the advocate was the same as snatched from Muhayuddin.
She even contacted various politicians seeking help. It was as per the advice received; Safeena contacted the complainant requesting him to pardon her children. She even told the complainant that her daughter was innocent and everything was planned by Rajesh, who was the driver of the vehicle used for abduction. Police have taken the accused to the house of Safeena Beevi for evidence collection and also to the house of the relative.
