A cycling race in Italy saw a chaotic ending when a horse ran onto the track in front of the leader.
The Strade Bianche in Tuscany saw the most bizarre of final stages when a giant stampeding horse bolted in front of leader Demi Vollering.
The Dutch rider was seen pointing to the camera motorbike ahead of her suggesting something was awry, and then the cameras picked up a horse at full pelt.
Vollering had to stamp on the brakes in fear of the beast almost twice her size, and lost 10 seconds due to the interruption, with the horse then making way.
That loss of time was almost crucial, with Vollering caught up and passed by Kristen Faulkner.
Thankfully, the Team SD Worx rider was then joined by her teammate Lotte Kopecky, and the two were able to work together to attack a solo Faulkner, who tired and dropped back.
Then team orders went out the window, as Vollering and Kopecky battled to the finish line in Sienna, with Vollering throwing her bike forward at the opportune moment, and winning an incredible photo-finish.
In the men’s race, Leeds-born Tom Pidcock became the first-ever British rider to win the Strade Bianche.
The 23-year-old had a far more simple finish than his female counterpart, breaking away with 50km to spare and crossing the finish line alone for a historic win.
