Maharashtra Bypolls Results Highlights: Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar wins Kasba seat, say TV reports; BJP's Ashwini Jagtap ahead in Chinchwad

PUNE: Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar on Thursday won Kasba assembly bypoll in Maharashtra by nearly 11,000 votes.
Dhangekar maintained lead over BJP candidate Hemant Rasane till the last round. He had a backing of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
Dhangekar secured 73,194 votes after 20 rounds of counting. Whereas, Rasane got 62,244 votes.
The Kasba Peth assembly constituency was locked in a fierce two-way fight with heavyweights such as chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar, Shiv Sena UBT's Aditya Thackeray and Congress state chief Nana Patole had campaigning extensively.
Meanwhile, In Chinchwad, BJP's Ashwini Jagtap is leading over Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) candidate Nana Kate and independent Rahul Kalate. After 18 rounds of counting, Jagtap was leading with 64,000 votes.

My situation is - Thodi khushi, thoda gam, says Ajit Pawar on Kasba and Chinchwad bypolls. Ravindra Dhangekar is a grassroot worker. He always remains available for the people in need. CM, deputy CM did lot of campaigning, meeting and used all the means to win the election. However, Dhangekar won. Rather than sympathy, people voted on crucial issues.

In both Kasba and Chinchwad bypolls, BJP and Shinde camp used money, force. However, we believe in democracy. In Kasba, Dangekar is leading. In Chinchwad, BJP candidate is leading in the booths that have hold of Jagtap. Change will be seen as counting progresses. The political quake will be seen in the form of result.

CM and deputy CM had camped in Kasba. Police force, administration were used. Yet, Maha Vikas Candidate (MVA) is ahead. In Kasba, BJP was always winning because of Shiv Sena. Today, Shiv Sena is part of MVA and effect can be seen there. We always said BJP's fort will collapse.
Chinchwad: Ashwini Jagtap leading with over 7,500 votes.
Kasba Peth: After four rounds of counting, Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar ahead with 15,510 votes. BJP's Hemant Rasne trailing with 13,778 votes.
The streak started from the first round will continue till the end. Dhangekar will win by at least 15,000 to 20,000 votes, said NCP Pune city unit chief Prashant Jagtap.
The bypolls, necessitated due to the death of incumbent BJP MLAs Mukta Tilak (Kasba) and Laxman Jagtap (Chinchwad), were held on February 26, registering an average voter turnout of 50 per cent.
These polls pitted the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance of the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).
