Nod for goods train on Angul-Sukinda line
Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Wednesday issued an authorisation letter for opening of the new Angul-Sukinda broad gauge line for goods traffic at a maximum speed of 65 km per hour.
The railways had rolled an engine on the 92.8-km stretch in January for testing the tracks before its commissioning.
It is an important railway line meant for transportation of coal, iron ore and other minerals.
A special purpose vehicle called Angul-Sukinda Railway Limited (ASRL) has been formed for construction and maintenance of the line between Budhapank station (in Angul district) and Baghuapal station (near Sukinda in Jajpur district). The project was sanctioned in 1998-99, but it was incorporated in 2009. It has 230 minor bridges, 23 major bridges and 58 road over bridges (ROBs).
