Sagardighi bypoll result: Congress candidate Bayron Biswas leading by over 20,996 votes
SAGARDIGHI: As per the early trends by Election Commission (EC), Congress candidate Bayron Biswas was leading in West Bengal's Sagardighi assembly seat where the counting of votes was under way for a byelection.
The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of state minister Subrata Saha in December last year. The TMC has been winning the seat since 2011, and it secured a margin of more than 50,000 votes in the 2021 assembly elections.

* Congress's Bayron Biswas (70,603 votes) has increased his lead with a huge margin of 20,996 votes against TMC's Debashish Banerjee (49,607 votes). BJP's Dilip Saha is trailing at third place with 20,211 votes.
* Congress’ Bayron Biswas (56,203 votes) is leading with over 10,000 votes against TMC’s Debashish Banerjee (42,046 votes) and BJP’s Dilip Saha (18,732 votes).
* Congress candidate Bayron Biswas is maintaining a lead with 40,516 votes against TMC's Debashish Banerjee (31,529 votes) and BJP's Dilip Saha (11,340) votes.
* Congress candidate Bayron Biswas is now leading by over 10,000 votes.
* Sagardighi bypoll latest: Congress' Bayron Biswas has so far received 35,300 votes, while TMC's Debashish Banerjee has received 27,606 votes.
* Congress has recorded over 44 per cent votes so far while TMC registered 39 per cent votes.
* Congress candidate Byron Biswas leading by more than 5,000 votes after five rounds of counting.
* If Biswas manages to win the by-election, also being seen as a prestige fight for state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury in his home district, it will be the party's first seat in this assembly, which has a strength of 294.
* Biswas, who enjoys the support of the Left, was leading by 515 votes over TMC candidate Debashish Banerjee after the first round of counting.
* Biswas bagged 5,459 votes and Banerjee got 4,944 votes, while Dilip Saha of the BJP secured 2,142 votes.
