GURGAON: The state government’s move to introduce e-posting module has led to a backlog of salary for two months, alleged government school teachers on Wednesday.
Finding no other solution, teachers have now written to the chief minister seeking his intervention in the matter so that their pending salary is released immediately.
Teachers claimed that as several representations and correspondence to the education department yielded no result, they decided to approach chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. United under the banner of the state primary teachers’ association, they held a demonstration on Tuesday and claimed that despite repeated reminders, the department has failed to release their salaries.
“For the past two months, the salaries of thousands of teachers across
Haryana have been withheld by the government. We have raised the issue with the officials but there seems to be no clear answer and the government has failed to give a timeline on when this issue will be addressed. This is why we protested on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to the chief minister to take up this issue on a priority basis,” said Dushyant Thakran, a government school teacher and district head of the Haryana Prathmik Shikshak Sangh.
They further asserted that if the government does not support them, a mass action will be considered to press for their demands. They have claimed that the issue has emerged due to the government’s move to introduce an e-posting module. “Inflation has hit the roof and under such circumstances, if we don’t get the salaries it becomes difficult to survive. We have been told that this has happened due to an e-posting module introduced by the government. If there’s a fault in the system, the government should own it up and rectify it and not pass the burden onto employees,” said Vinod Thakran, executive president of all India primary teachers association.
The issue of salaries of government employees being withheld due to the e-posting module has been lingering since last year. The government says that it had introduced the e-posting module for effective monitoring of the expenditure incurred on salaries and other verticals by around 38 departments. “It is a new system and data has to be uploaded on it. There were some technical issues that delayed the process. We are working on it,” said an education department official.
