COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu generation and distribution corporation limited (Tangedco) has served 24-hour disconnection notice to the owners of illegal brick kiln units at Govanur, Karamadai, Madukkarai, Thondamuthur and Periyanayakkanpalayam.
The notice was served based on the high court direction on February 21, 2023. The court had instructed Tangedco officials to disconnect power to the units before the next hearing on March 2, based on a case filed by activist S Muralidharan of Chennai.
While 177 brick kiln units were sealed in 2022, 118 units were sealed in January this year, but power to the 118 units was not disconnected, Muralidharan said.
S Ganesh, a Chinna Thadagam-based activist, said there was no need to serve notice to the kiln owners. “The court has amply made it clear and the officials should have disconnected at once. By delaying action, the officials are favouring the kiln owners,” he said.
