Ammonia gas leak from cold store in Fatehpur
Kanpur: Two people were knocked out of their senses following an ammonia gas leak at Shankar Vardani cold store located in Baharampur in Thariyaon police station of Fatehpur district late on Tuesday night.
The gas leak initially created panic among the people living nearby and within a short time, the people of Thariyaon, Baharampur, Texari Buzurg, Hanumanpur, Karanpur villages also started facing problems.
Kajal 16) and one Ram Singh (60), who lived in the cold store premises, fainted due to the gas leak. When the district administration received information about the gas leak, a team of Asothar police station and fire tenders from Fatehpur and Khaga were roped in to control the situation.
An area of 500 meters on both sides was evacuated on Asothar Road. District authorities said that technicians successfully plugged a leak and the situation is completely under control and both the girl and the elderly man have regained consciousness.
Circle Officer Dinesh Chandra said that a truck had transported a consignment of potatoes. After unloading the potatoes, the truck reached the restricted area causing damage to the Ammonia gas supply pipe. Soon, the gas spread in the area.
The situation is now under control as the leak was successfully plugged-in, traffic towards the cold store has been completely restricted,” said CO further and added, “The affected people including a minor girl and elderly man have attained normalcy.”
