Homeless man slashes woman, 61, in Midtown Manhattan

A homeless man slashed a woman in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

The attacker approached the 61-year-old victim near the corner of W. 57th St. and Eighth Ave., just a block south of Columbus Circle, around 3:40 p.m., cops said.

He cut her twice on the shoulder with a sharp object.

“It was a deranged homeless guy,” said a witness who works at a nearby restaurant. “He cut her. Her shoulder and arm was all bloody.”

The attacker, who was wearing an orange hoodie and black jacket, took off west on 57th St., cops and sources said.

Police responding to the scene sat the injured woman down on the steps of a diner near the corner as they waited for EMS to arrive.

Medics took her to Mount Sinai West, where she is expected to recover.

“Welcome to New York,” the man who witnessed the attack dryly said.

There were no immediate arrests.
