COIMBATORE: A 67-year-old man died in an elephant attack near Anaikatti in Coimbatore district of
Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as M Maruthachalam Kalkadu village near Anaikatti. He was found dead around 1,500 metre away from Anaikatti South reserve forest. He went there around 7am to relieve himself. Officials said there were three elephants in the area and it was not clear how many of them had attacked him.
A team led by forest officials reached the spot and informed the Thadagam police. The police shifted the body to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
It was the second death due to an elephant attack in the district on Thursday. In the early hours of Thursday,
a 36-year-old man was killed by a male elephantwhich strayed into agricultural fields at Mangarai in Thadagam Valley. The deceased has been identified as P Mahesh Kumar, 36, of 24 Veerapandi.
