Hekhani Jakhalu created history on Thursday by becoming the first woman to be elected to the Nagaland Assembly, officials said. According to early trends, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma’s NPP is taking a lead with 19 seats, and TMC is close behind with 12. Earlier, TMC was leading as Mukul Sangma was leading in the Songsak seat in the West Garo Hills.

In Nagaland, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Kazheto Kinimi was re-elected unopposed from the Akuluto Assembly constituency after his only opponent and Congress nominee Khekashe Sumi withdrew his candidature.
