These include exclusive games developed internally by Nintendo, as well as third-party titles and ports also available on other platforms.

There are lots of games to look forward to on the platform. These are the best upcoming Nintendo Switch games for 2023 and beyond.

The next game in the Minecraft universe will launch in 2023, but this one might be a bit different than you’d expect. Minecraft Legends is a strategy game that aims to encapsulate similar RTS adventures such as StarCraft. It’s still unclear how it will play exactly, but we do know it’ll focus on story, with an emphasis on large-scale battles. Despite Mojang being owned by Microsoft, Minecraft Legends will come to all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been heralded as the best game of the generation and possibly the best Legend of Zelda game of all time. It comes as no surprise that Nintendo wanted to create a direct sequel, though just what form that will take remains unclear. A teaser trailer released at E3 2019 suggests that Zelda could be playable along with Link, and the world seems to be suffering from another calamity despite the destruction of Ganon. At E3 2021, Nintendo showed off more of this game, still referring to it as “the sequel to Breath of the Wild.” The open-world design still remains, but players will now be able to venture to the skies above, similar to Skyward Sword. Finally, during the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, the sequel received a title, and it’s called Tears of the Kingdom. It’s gearing up for a May 2023 release after many years in development.

We still don’t know a lot about the plot of Pikmin 4, but it has been confirmed in trailers that there will be a new ice-type Pikmin and a cute dog-like companion to help the captain this time around.

One of 2017’s absolute best games is getting a sequel in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and it’s headed to Nintendo Switch sometime in the future. It will take the stunning visuals, Metroidvania gameplay, and atmosphere of the original Hollow Knight and put you in the shoes (do these creatures wear shoes?) of Hornet, a princess who is tasked with protecting Hallownest. Silksong was announced last year, and we haven’t gotten much of an update on its development, but hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer. If it’s half as good as the original, we’re all in for a treat.

Along with the news that Persona 5 Royal will come to Switch, Atlus also announced that Persona 3 Portable will come to the handheld hybrid platform in 2023 on an undisclosed date. This is the definitive version of Persona 3, which first came to PS2 before launching on PSP in 2010. This is arguably the game that put Persona on the map, redefining features from previous installments and paving the way for what would become one of the most beloved JRPGs of all time.

The trifecta of Persona games will include the fourth installment, which will come to Switch sometime in 2023. Persona 4 Golden is an expanded version of the fourth game in the series, which first came to the PS2 before debuting on the PS Vita in 2012. This game is known for streamlining the series’ mechanics, as well as an approachable cast of characters, story, and gameplay loop. Although Persona 3 was a turning point for the series, Persona 4 Golden is often regarded as the most popular, at least at the time. Thankfully, players will get to experience this excellent JRPG on Nintendo Switch next year.

Hailing from developer Firaxis, the team behind XCOM, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a turn-based tactical RPG. It will feature similar gameplay as the XCOM series, but with a few twists and turns that keep it separate from them. In it, you play as a new hero called The Hunter, who can be customized to your liking. But you can still fight alongside your favorite Marvel heroes, including Wolverine, Ghost Rider, and Iron Man. Best of all, it’s coming to Nintendo Switch, meaning you’ll be able to play it on the big screen or on the go. A version of this title launched on December 2 for other consoles and PC, but the Switch edition still doesn’t have a release date. We’re hoping it hits in 2023.

Since we’re on the topic of games we know nothing about, word of Metroid Prime 4 got out several years ago at an E3 Nintendo Direct presentation, but we haven’t heard anything from Nintendo since. Supposedly, the game was still in the developing process at Bandai Namco. Still, the game was not advancing as quickly as Nintendo expected, and it was thus scrapped and restarted with Metroid Prime trilogy creator Retro Studios taking the wheel. We don’t know if the game will launch in the next few years, but we do know one thing: Metroid fans are great at waiting. Otherwise, they may get stuck with another game like Other M, and no one wants that.

The best free flight simulators
Plane flying in GeoFS.

Most of us will never be given the chance to fly our own plane, which is why it's so tempting to take to the virtual skies. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is probably the best way to do that now, but the game will run you $60 at least, plus the cost of additional planes. And that probably won't change any time soon.

As is the case with most simulator games, flight simulators have a long shelf life. X-Plane 11, for example, is still a full $60, despite being three years old, and it has over $2,000 worth of DLC. With those kinds of prices, you'll need to track down the best free flight simulators to take to the skies on the cheap.

The best upcoming PS5 games: 2023 and beyond
A female adventurer with scales on her face.

The PlayStation 5 has been out for some time now, and its reception has been mostly positive. It includes lots of quality-of-life improvements over its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, such as faster load times, a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a regular hard disk drive (HDD), and an improved controller in the form of the new DualSense. However, a console is only as good as the games available on it, and thankfully, the PS5 has you covered on that front as well.

While the machine already has a worthy library of great PS5 games, there are even more to look forward to, with some releasing as soon as this month, while others are still years away. In the video game world, it's not uncommon to be aware of games that are still several years out from release. It's also normal for a new game to be revealed and launched within just a couple of months. In this comprehensive list, we'll go through the major PS5 releases scheduled for 2023 and speculate on future games.
