Jaipur: In the past one year, JMC-Greater has removed over 300 permanent encroachments, but officials said that the problem persists with temporary encroachments across the city. Officials said in the first two months of this year, fines of Rs 5.65 lakh have been imposed and collected by the authorities, but encroachments by vendors continue to exist on roads.
In 2022, JMC-Greater removed 2,688 temporary encroachments and 236 permanent encroachments, while in 2023, the civic body has removed 394 temporary encroachments while 76 permanent ones. Last year, JMC-Greater had collected fines worth Rs 32.84 lakh from temporary encroachments.
“We remove permanent encroachments only after we get requests from different zone offices. For temporary encroachments like vendors or shopkeepers on roads, we take regular action, but the problem is that after one or two days, they come back. There is always someone who is there to substitute the vendors on whom action has been taken,” said a senior official from the vigilance wing of the corporation.
In the past three days, JMC-Greater has been taking action on encroachments in the city daily. On Wednesday, JMC-Greater removed encroachments in Jagatpura and Malviya Nagar zones and seized five trucks of goods. Officials said that action was taken to remove temporary encroachments from Balaji turn to Jagatpura Pulia, below Jagatpura Pulia and at Nandpuri Swej farm. In a major action, the vigilance wing on Tuesday demolished permanent encroachments like houses, shops, near Tonk Pulia, where a 40 feet wide road had been reduced to 10 feet due to encroachments.
“We are now removing the debris and electricity poles from that area after which the road will be restored to its original width, which will help in reducing traffic congestion,” said Setharam, deputy commissioner for vigilance.
In JMC Heritage too, action was taken at three sites on Wednesday with properties being seized for illegal encroachments.
“Officials have been instructed to go to different areas in the Walled City and take action against without any pressure on those who are carrying out illegal residential and commercial construction,” said Munesh Gurjar, mayor JMC Heritage.
