Berhampur Municipal Corporation floats Rs 80 crore tender for repair of internal roads

BERHAMPUR: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has started repair of internal roads. “A tender for the repair of 308 internal roads at an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore has been floated,” said urban development minister Usha Devi.
In response to Berhampur MLA Bikram Kumar Panda’s question, the minister told the assembly on Tuesday that the civic body was preparing details to float tenders in April to repair some more internal roads within BeMC limits.
Driving on the city’s internal roads has become dangerous for commuters, as nearly all roads have been damaged as a result of digging for laying of pipelines for drinking water supply to households under the 24X7 water supply scheme.
“The executing agency does not level most of the damaged roads, causing inconvenience to commuters. The ongoing and incomplete work is one of the main reasons behind the deteriorating condition of roads. We have previously urged the civic body to repair the roads several times,” said Kanhu Charan Pati, a BJP leader.
He added that the repair work should start immediately and be completed before the start of the famous Berhampur Thakurani Yatra as thousands of people from far-flung areas visit the city during that time.
To another question from Panda, the minister said the civic body has prepared the request for proposal for mechanised sweeping in Berhampur.
