Don’t consider India a secular nation, says Congress MLA Ameen Khan in Rajasthan Assembly

Speaking at the Rajasthan Assembly, Congress MLA Ameen Khan on March 01 said that he does not consider India as a secular state anymore. Mentioning the assassination date of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he said, “I don’t consider India a secular nation since October 31, 1984. Secularism in the country was dead on the day. Nobody is going to kill us even if India becomes a “Hindu Rashtra”. I know about the Hindu religion very well. Hindus will protect the people of other religions but declaring India as a secular nation on the paper is not right. The day starts with the prayers of one particular community in each and every school in Rajasthan. This is not a good thing for a strong country.”
