GURGAON: The target set for processing legacy waste in Bandhwari in February was not met by MCG. Of 2.25 lakh tonnes of legacy waste, only 80,000 tonnes — or 35% of the targeted waste — was processed.
In January, 1.8 lakh tonnes of legacy waste was processed against the target of 1.9 lakh tonnes.

MCG commissioner PC Meena, in a meeting, on Tuesday directed officials to expedite waste processing so that each month’s target, set as per the action plan, is met. The civic body plans to clear Bandhwari of legacy waste by September this year. “We have missed the target in February as the contract of one of the agencies was not renewed. We have been directed to complete the backlog in March and April so that our progress is made in accordance with the action plan submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) committee,” said an MCG official privy to the matter.
In March, around 3.25 lakh tonnes of legacy waste is to be processed. Of the total waste, private firms Bhumi Green will treat 1.6 lakh tonnes, Patheya will process 70,000 tonnes and two new agencies will process 40,000 each. Moreover, the agencies will process 4.5 lakh tonnes in April, 5.9 lakh tonnes in May and 6 lakh tonnes in June. Waste processing in July will be 1.3 lakh tonnes since only 10 working days are considered in the month due to the rainy season. There will be no waste processing in August, however in September, 4.5 lakh tonnes of legacy waste will be processed.
MCG officials told the commissioner that the plan to stop dumping of fresh waste in Bandhwari by March 31 will be challenging to achieve. Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) were told to start their fresh waste processing in a decentralised manner. MCF officials said the estimate to develop the site at Pali, to divert fresh waste, has been sent to the state government.
