The last time we heard about iPhone SE 4, Kuo claimed it could either get canceled or postponed. He has now shared fresh information suggesting the much-rumored iPhone model might not be dead after all. In a thread on Twitter, Kuo says Apple has restarted the next-gen iPhone SE project and has made significant changes to what the device will bring to the table.

The biggest change is claimed to be iPhone SE 4 featuring an OLED display. Apple has always opted for LCD panels in the budget segment so far. This will be a first for the SE model and the phone is said to be based on the 6.1-inch iPhone 14. The previous rumors claimed it to be based on the iPhone XR. This display size should be smaller on the SE as these models have targetted fans of compact-sized phones.

Apple is further said to go for the in-house 4nm 5G baseband chip on the iPhone SE 4. It will be limited to Sub-6GHz 5G connectivity. This is another major change as the current-gen iPhone SE model features Qualcomm's Snapdragon X57 chip for 5G support. The custom chip may also be seen in the iPhone 16 series but actual implementation will depend on mmWave and satellite communication-related developments.

Kuo believes iPhone SE 4 will go under mass production during the first half of 2024. Apple also has plans to ditch Qualcomm's baseband for future iPad and Apple Watch models. This is not surprising as we have heard in the past that the Cupertino-based tech giant wants to reduce its dependency on Qualcomm for components.
