Assam: Seba cancels affiliation of 105 schools over poor performance in Class X
Board of Secondary Education, Assam (Seba)
GUWAHATI: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (Seba) has withdrawn its affiliation from 105 private and venture schools after they failed to respond to the showcase issued by the board for poor performance in last year’s Class X state board examination.
While 9 schools, the highest, will lose affiliation in Tinsukia district, 8 will no longer be under Seba in Kokrajhar. In Dibrugarh district, 7 will lose affiliation, followed by 6 each in Kamrup (Metro) and Golaghat. The pass percentage of these schools was below 10% last year.
“Most of these schools hardly have any enrolment. They need to shift the students of lower classes to other schools,” Seba chairman RC Jain told TOI on Tuesday.
After scrutinizing the board results last year, Seba found that a total of 294 private and venture schools had a very dismal performance with pass percentage ranging from zero to 10. Of these 294 schools, 41 were continuously performing below par with pass percentage of zero to 10 percent in the preceding five years.
The show cause notices, as to why their affiliation to Seba should not be cancelled, were served to all these institutions soon after the declaration of the results last year. The show cause notices were issued in June and July last year, but 107 of the institutions failed to respond. Of these 107 schools, Mornai Sah Bagisha High school, Kokrajhar and Sri Sri Ramananda Dev Girl's High School, Nagaon have been given one more chance on the basis of the physical verification reports submitted by DPOs of concerned districts.
On the other hand, 187 schools replied to the notices and their replies were scrutinized. “These 187 schools have consented to improve their results in the board examination this year. So, we decided to give one more chance to them to improve performance,” said Seba secretary Naranarayan Nath.
