KOLKATA: A Madhyamik examinee was found hanging from an iron staircase outside her home in Salt Lake in Kolkata, on the day of her history examination on Wednesday morning.
Anmona Roy, a student of Begum Rokeya Smriti Balika Vidyalaya lived in the caretaker’s room at a CJ Block house in Salt Lake with her parents and elder brother.
On Wednesday, Roy had come out of her room to study at a secluded area under the iron staircase of the house at around 8am. Her parents were away for some work while her brother was home.
Police said, it was around 11am, when the mother returned and found that she hadn’t left for her examination centre at Bidhannagar Municipality school, she sent her son to look for the girl, who found her hanging from the staircase.
Cops were called who pulled down the girl’s body and sent it to Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
Cops probing the case said no suicide note was recovered from the spot and that they have lodged a case of unnatural death.
“We are checking whether the girl was under stress due to the exam or was bothered by anything else. We are also probing if the girl had hung herself or if someone else was involved,” said an officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
TOI spoke to the girl's family who said she was a bright student and had told the family that her exams were going well.
