Respiratory ailments up due to change in weather
Jaipur: Sudden change in weather has caused seasonal diseases in the city. The hospitals are witnessing a rise in patient footfall complaining allergies, fever, and upper tract infection.
Doctors say pollen entering the nasal pathways could cause pollen allergy—with symptoms somewhat similar to common flu and cold. As the climatic variability is increasing, it is expected that the urban environment will significantly add to the burden of pollen-related respiratory and skin diseases.
The hospitals and clinics are receiving patients with various symptoms including nasal watery discharge, breathing problem, wheezing, burning eyes and rashes. The doctors pointed out that due to several reasons, including sudden change in weather, rising allergy-causing pollen in the air, and viral infections, the allergy and respiratory centres in hospitals are witnessing more patients.
Doctors advise people to take proper precautions. “Avoid going out in the early morning and evening when air has high concentration of allergy-causing pollen. As a precautionary measure use face masks and take consultation with doctors for treatment,” said Dr Ajit Singh, expert in respiratory diseases and allergies, SMS hospital.
Pollens remain suspended in the air and form part of the air we breathe. When inhaled by humans, they put a strain on the upper respiratory system.
They cause widespread upper respiratory tract and naso-bronchial allergy with manifestations like asthma, seasonal rhinitis, and bronchial irritation.
