CHENNAI: Madhu, 60, who had served as the jamedar for Chennai mayors since 1984, retired on Wednesday.
Madhu had served former mayors M K Stalin, Ma Subramanian and Saidai Duraisamy. For the last one year, he had served mayor R Priya.
Priya said Madhu was a calm person dedicated to his work.
One of the notable moments of Madhu was that as part of tradition, every month when the council meeting happened, he made a repeated announcement “mayor varugirar” (mayor is coming), as the mayor entered the council hall.
