PANAJI: The Goa police’s crime branch on Tuesday arrested four persons from Delhi in Anjuna for allegedly accepting online bets on the Pakistan Super League, 2023.
The branch reacted to specific information that some people were accepting bets at a villa in the village.
After verifying the information, a team was constituted under PI Narayan Chimulkar, and a raid was conducted. The team caught Surinder Ram Swaroop Karla, Rajat Surinder Karla, Kashish Surinder Karla, and Hitesh Pravin Kumar Karla, all residents of Adarsh Nagar in Delhi.
They were nabbed red-handed while accepting bets, said crime branch SP Nidhin Valsan.
The SP said that the accused were accepting online bets from customers in Delhi on the Lahore Qalandars v Peshawar Zalmi PSL match on February 16.
“The amount accepted from customers for the said match was Rs 3 lakh. They were operating a gambling activity, a game of chance, using mobiles. All the five mobiles, worth Rs 2 lakh, were attached under the panchanama,” Valsan said. Police said that all four accused were arrested and released on bail.
