THANE: A 74-year-old vice chairman of a trust that operates few educational institutes in Thane staged a protest in the city on Tuesday, trying to attract government attention and oppose attempts by a few fellow trustees to accept donation seats at the 12 schools and colleges operated by it.
Magan Thakkar, who staged the protest near the Thane collector office said the trust is financially sound and there is no requirement for accepting donations.
He said the institutes see students mostly for low and middle income groups studying and said parents may not be financially sound especially post the pandemic to pay for seats, which is also illegal. Thakkar said he was alerted by few residents of donations being demanded following which he also tried to oppose the same during a board meeting but to no avail.
