Thiruvananthapuram: A youth got into an argument with a minor girl and slapped and abused her allegedly for rejecting his love in Neyyattinkara on Tuesday, police said.
After hitting her, the youth who had come along with a minor boy, tried to flee from the scene in their car, hitting two autorickshaws and two two-wheelers in the hurry to escape.
The girl who was in her school uniform was waiting at the KSRTC bus depot when the youth confronted her.
The youth, identified as Sinoj, also tried to snatch the mobile phone from her and seeing this, people intervened, and Shinoj and the boy tried to escape in the car in which they came.
In the hurry to get away, the car hit the vehicles and a two-wheeler rider was injured in the melee.
The injured has been admitted to the medical college hospital with a fracture on his leg. Shinoj tried to run away after alighting from the car but was chased by the public and handed over to the police.
The CCTV footage of Shinoj attacking the girl and later their attempt to escape was shared on social media. However, the girl’s family was not willing to register a complaint against the accused.
The Neyyattinkara police have registered a case for rash driving and causing hurt by driving dangerously under Sections 279 and 338 of IPC, respectively, on the complaint of the injured.
