CHENNAI: Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan on Tuesday said his friendship with chief minister M K Stalin is beyond politics.
Kamal said
Stalin and he had been friends ever since the latter was introduced to him as the son of M Karunanidhi.
"We may not be close friends, but have remained friends and proved that it is a friendship beyond politics whenever the opportunity arose," he said while speaking to reporters after inaugurating an exhibition called 'Engal Muthalvar, Engal Perumai' (our chief minister, our pride) at Raja Annamalai Mandram in the city to mark Stalin's 70th birthday, which falls on March 1. The exhibition will go on till March 12.
"At a time when there are attempts to distort history, such events are important," Kamal said.
"Stalin faced challenges and grew gradually, from being a cadre, youth wing secretary, MLA, mayor, deputy chief minister and chief minister and reached this pinnacle due to his efforts and patience," said Kamal.
"Though he had always been by his father's side, he had never sought anything for himself. This is history that has to be remembered," Kamal said.
"When there are attempts to distort history, particularly the history of Tamils, such histories should be recalled frequently," he added.
When asked if the MNM would form an alliance with the DMK for the ensuing
Lok Sabha polls, Kamal said that he likes to keep moving a story from scene to scene, "And you should not ask what the climax is. For now, let's celebrate this event, where his (Stalin's) history has been shown through photographs," he said.
