Panaji: After a fine bowling display from Mohit Redkar, Chowgule Sports Club lost early wickets as they trail Dempo Cricket Club by 144 runs on Day 1 of the Goa Premier League, organised by Goa Cricket Association, played at GCA ground, Porvorim, on Wednesday.

Chowgule were 79/4 at stumps as Kashyap Bakle (23) and Vardhan Misquin (14) remained unbeaten at the crease.

Batting first, Dempo Cricket Club were bundled out for 234 runs in 57.5 overs. After losing Abhinav Tej Rana for seven runs in the fifth over, Manthan Khutjar (36) and Yash Porob (34) put up a 63 runs stand for the second wicket partnership. However, Dempo suffered a blow when Jagdish Patil sent Yash Porob in the 27th over. From thereon, Dempo CC lost wickets at regular intervals. Karan Vasshodia was caught and bowled by Mohit Redekar, and then Manthan was sent back to the pavilion by Mohit Redkar.

However, Dempo CC captain Lakshay Garg played a blistering knock of 90 off just 70 deliveries hitting 14 boundaries and two over the ropes to take Dempo to the total of 234.

For Chowgule, Mohit Redkar was the star bowler picking up seven wickets for 103 runs. Jagdish Patil was the other wicket taker.

In reply, Dempo CC’s Deep Kasvankar picked up an early wicket to send Veer Yadav packing, giving a good start for his side. Chowgule lost three more wickets before they could score 79 runs at stumps.

In another match at GCA ground Sanguem, Yogesh Kauthankar remained unbeaten on 89 runs guiding Geno Sports Club to 277 runs for the loss of six wickets against Panjim Gymkhana. Vaibhav Naik (71) was the other top run getter for Geno Sports Club.

For the bowling team, Ruthvik Naik and Shubham Desai picked two wickets each. Prathmesh Dongre and Tunish Sawkar.
