Barstool Sports, Phusion Projects Launch Pirate Water Malt Beverage

Digital media company Barstool Sports is wading into the ever-expanding pool of malt beverages with a 10% alcohol-by-volume offering called Pirate Water, in a collaboration with Four Loko and Mamitas drinks creator Phusion Projects.

It’s the latest beverage offering from New York City-headquartered Barstool, which specializes in sports, lifestyle and entertainment media.

Pirate Water iterations labeled Sex on the Beach, Margarita, Miami Vice and Bahama Mama have gained shelf space at retailers including Walmart, Albertsons, Safeway, HEB and Circle K.

In addition to social media content, the launch is being promoted by several members of Barstool’s talent roster.

They include Kevin Clancy & John Feitelberg from the comedy podcast “KFC Radio”; Brianna Chickenfry and Grace O’Malley, the hosts of “PlanBri Uncut;” and Dana Beers, best known for his Zillion Beers merchandise line.

“Phusion has given us a ton of creative direction in integrating this product into ours and our audiences' styles. We can’t wait to share it with the world and watch it explode,” Chickenfry said in a news release.

On March 16, Chickenfry and O’Malley will host a Pirate Water Spring Break Party at Rock Bar Day Club in Ft. Lauderdale. Three days later, Barstool talent will participate in the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade—cruising through the streets on a Pirate Water-branded duck boat.

Phusion and Barstool Sports have been partners for more than two years, integrating Mamitas and Four Loko into several of Barstool’s content franchises.

In 2019, Barstool collaborated with the New Amsterdam spirits brand to introduce pink-lemonade-flavored Pink Whitney vodka.

Last November, Barstool launched D2C coffee brand Stella Blue.

In February, casino operator and entertainment company Penn Entertainment acquired the remaining 64% of Barstool that it did not already own.
