UDUPI: The district is gearing up to organise a mass convention of government scheme beneficiaries at Kaup on March 5.
Minister of fisheries, ports and inland water transport S Angara directed the officials to make necessary arrangements to hold the convention successfully. Angara, who is also the district in-charge minister of Udupi, chaired a preparatory meeting at Udupi zilla panchayat hall here on Monday.
"Benefits of various central and state government schemes will be distributed at the convention. For this, officials from various departments should prepare a list of beneficiaries under various schemes. Officials should ensure that the target under various government schemes is achieved as per schedule. No scheme beneficiary should be deprived of the benefits," Angara said.
The minister directed officials to bring any issues in the implementation of schemes to his notice instantly.
"I will speak to the secretaries of the respective department and solve any issues. The government will take all measures to ensure that scheme benefits reach the right beneficiaries and thereby help them grow economically. Officials of the departments of agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, animal husbandry, social welfare, backward classes welfare, women and child welfare, differently abled, labour, industries, revenue and various corporations should put extra efforts to identify beneficiaries for various schemes pertaining to their departments," he said.

Awareness meet heldMinister of fisheries, ports and inland water transport S Angara inaugurated an awareness meet and distribution of various government schemes being implemented through social welfare department, backward classes welfare department, Dr B R Ambedkar Development Corporation, Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Development Corporation and other development corporations in Udupi on Monday.
The minister called upon people to make use of the government schemes and become self-reliant.
Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat said that 500 two-wheelers will be distributed among members of the scheduled tribes and scheduled castes in Udupi district to promote the door-to-door sales of vegetables, fish, clothes, and other items.
