Several areas in Gauteng were left without internet on Tuesday morning, after a major fibre outage.

Internet service provider AfriHost said on its website that both fibre-to-the-home companies Vumatel and Evotel informed it of a "network outage affecting Gauteng, [where] affected clients will experience no connectivity."

Another service provider, Easyweb sent out a message advising clients it is "aware of multiple areas down" on Vumatel's network. "We are busy escalating with them to get the problem resolved as quickly as possible," it said.

Vumatel later posted a confirmation of the outage on Twitter, saying its "technicians are currently attending to the issue, and updates will follow as we receive them."

Evotel also said on Twitter that is is "are aware of the disruptions on our networks", and that its team was investigating.

The area of the network being affected was not immediately clear.

Fibre users across several other internet service providers have also reported on being affected by the outages.
