features & specs
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler offers something for everyone so inclined to explore its astounding off-road capability.
What kind of vehicle is the 2023 Jeep Wrangler? What does it compare to?
It’s a rugged convertible SUV with throwback style and no shortage of tech. The 2023 Jeep Wrangler compares with the Ford Bronco and Toyota 4Runner.
Is the 2023 Jeep Wrangler a good SUV?
For what it is, the 2023 Wrangler remains a great choice thanks to its impressive ability and its fun style. The fun falters on pavement, however, even with the doors and roof off. Poor fuel economy and weak standard features sink its TCC Rating to 4.8 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler?
A new Freedom trim level joins the lineup for a short period, but otherwise the 2023 Jeep Wrangler sees few changes.
2023 Jeep Wrangler
Styling
Jeep has done an admirable job keeping this 80-year-old design plenty fresh.
Is the Jeep Wrangler a good-looking car?
It doesn’t take itself seriously, that’s for sure. We love the boxy, rugged styling and even the quirky dashboard design. Myriad small details make the 2023 Jeep Wrangler a true delight.
2023 Jeep Wrangler
Performance
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler is tops off-road, but uncomfortable on pavement.
The ace up the 2023 Jeep Wrangler’s sleeve is its off-road capability, but there are far better commuters for most drivers. We rate it at 5 out of 10, awarding it a point for its four-wheeling bits but subtracting one for a clunky ride.

Comfort & Quality
Comfort takes a (rather uncomfortable) back seat to capability in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler.
Park bench-like seats and awkward ergonomics do the Jeep Wrangler no favors, though its big cargo area helps it score a 4 out of 10 on our comfort and quality scale.
The Wrangler’s manual front seats aren’t particularly comfortable, though they can be heated for an extra charge. Rear-seat riders will struggle to climb in regardless of the number of doors. Two-door models are, predictably, worse, but even four-doors have small door openings and a high step up to climb aboard. The rear seat has enough space for two adults, but the flat bench is not suitable for all-day journeys.
2023 Jeep Wrangler
Safety
Safety is not a priority in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler.
How safe is the Jeep Wrangler?
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler does not have a good crash-test record, though we’ll have to withhold a score until the NHTSA smacks one against a wall. When that happens, we’ll peel back points for mixed IIHS ratings and a lack of standard crash-avoidance tech.
2023 Jeep Wrangler
Features
Finally! Air conditioning is standard this year.
You don’t buy a 2023 Jeep Wrangler for its luxurious feature and lavish options. In base form, for $32,990, it comes in white with two doors with crank-up glass windows, a vinyl top, 17-inch steel wheels, a good 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and, new this year, air conditioning. Anything else costs extra.
Four-door versions go for about $4,300 more.
2023 Jeep Wrangler
Fuel Economy
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler can be surprisingly green in the right configurations.
Is the Jeep Wrangler good on gas?
It’s shaped like a brick, weighs a minimum of 4,000 lb, and it’s geared for off-road use, and yet the 2023 Jeep Wrangler can offer emissions-free commuting in the right configuration.
