7 members of Bishnoi, Nehra gangs arrested by crime branch
Surat: Crime branch arrested seven members of Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra gangs from the Piplod area on Monday. The accused were on the run anticipating an attack by the rival gangs in Rajasthan.
City police received specific information about suspicious movements of the accused following which they were questioned. During questioning, the gang members revealed their identities.
Those arrested include Devendra Shekhawat, Pravinsinh Rathod, Kishansing alias Krishnasing Rathod, Pritipalsinh Tawar, Mohit Yadav, Ajaysinh Bhati and Rakesh Sen. The gang members had rented a house in Piplod area.
“All had switched off their phones to avoid getting traced. They had disputes with rival gangs of Rajasthan and Haryana, so they were hiding in Surat,” said a police officer.
Shekhawat is the leader of the gang while Rathod is a dismissed cop. As a police constable in Rajasthan, Rathod helped Bishnoi and Nehra gangs many times. He provided shelter to gangsters and helped them escape ahead of police operations.
“The accused are involved in many deadly attacks on rival gangs. They were hiding in the city to stay underground for some time and then return to Rajasthan,” said a police officer.
