Jaipur: After a closure of two days, the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) has restored normal water supply here on Monday evening. Officials said they had to carry out the restoration process in a calculative way to ensure that all localities in the city get an even distribution of water.
Although the volume supply on Monday was a little less than the usual supply, officials claimed that the problem would be sorted out on Tuesday.
“We had actually started supply late on Sunday but since the volume of water that reached the city on Monday was less than the usual supply, we had to be very careful to transfer the water evenly at all localities,” said an engineer.
Officials said, water supply from Surajpura filter plant started around 6 am on Sunday and it reached the Balawala pump house in Sanganer in the evening. From there water was first supplied to the pump houses in Brahmapuri and Ramwilas Bagh at the northern side of the city.
The Sanjay Nagar Colony in Jhotwara got supply of water followed by the Walled City and adjacent areas. Areas like Bajaj Nagar and Gandhi Nagar got water supply on Monday afternoon and by evening water reached all households in the entire city.
“It takes almost 12 to 14 hours for water to reach Balawala from Surajpura, a distance of 96 kms and another one hour from Balawala to the city's north-western fringes, when pipelines are completely dry. So, we started off with these extreme ends,” an engineer added.
During this work, water supply to Ajmer was also stopped from Friday evening. However, the TM1 line meant for water supply to Ajmer got resumed on February 25 (Saturday) itself. Water supply to Tonk and other districts were not affected due this work.
