Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday told the legislative assembly that his government is with the onion farmers, amid reports of falling prices of the key kitchen staple in the wholesale market, and talked of financial help for the growers if required. Speaking on the floor of the lower house, Shinde said, "We are firmly standing by the onion growers in the state. NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited) has started onion procurement and that would push the prices up." (PTI)

The Maharashtra Legislative Council was adjourned on Tuesday till Wednesday after opposition legislators created a ruckus on the issue of farmers demanding an appropriate price for onions as prices dipped.
The Opposition leader of the Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve said that they were demanding a discussion on the farmer's issue with the government but the government did not do so, hence the council was adjourned for the day.

He further said, “If parents don’t teach kids to follow rules, then people steal other people’s things. So I won’t talk much about thieves. They will not be ashamed, but just as the hand was stamped in the film ‘Deewar,’ when they (Shinde group) draw the bow and arrow to their chest, there will bestamped on their foreheads that you yourself are a thief. This is a stolen bow and arrow.”
Thackeray said, “What Kapil Sibal is saying is right. The sequence of events is clear and clean. There was no need for the EC to poke its nose (in the Sena vs Sena dispute going on in the Supreme Court).”
The EC on February 17 allotted the Sena party name and poll symbol to the Eknath Shinde group.
Thackeray was speaking at a function organised by the Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samitee, the Sena’s wing, on the occasion of Marathi language day.
