Bihar government's focus on good governance, says Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar

PATNA: Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said on Monday that the government has been pursuing crime control and law and order management with utmost diligence, besides paying attention to constructing police buildings and establishing forensic science laboratory in all the police zones on a priority basis to strengthen the police force.
Addressing the joint session of the state legislature in the central hall, marking the start of the slightly over a month-long Budget session, the governor said the planned steps that the government has contemplated and also taking included recruiting police personnel to improve police-population ratio, establishing forensic science laboratory in all the remaining nine police zones, constructing buildings for remaining police stations, outposts and police lines, as well as construction of a combined building for effective coordination among units like crime investigation department, special branch, special task force, economic offences wing and prohibition.
The governor also said land has been identified in this regard for all new construction activities and money to be incurred on each of the activities has also been sanctioned.
He said the government has been working with zero tolerance on corruption, and effectively implementing the prohibition policy under which 2,611 accused persons from outside the state, including 115 big players involved in illegal liquor trade, have been nabbed.
"The government has always showed good governance and development with justice while executing its various activities," the governor said, and also referred to successful execution of programmes taken up under the two phases of Seven Resolves, besides pointing to steps taken up to handle the situation during coronavirus pandemic and steps taken up to improve the health sector.
Prior to that, assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary had informed the House that the Budget session will have 22 working days.
However, a few members from the opposition BJP were not impressed by the account presented by the governor with regard to the achievements made by the government.
They, on a few occasions, made counter remarks during the governor's address.
On one occasion, RJD member Rekha Devi and Bhagirathi Devi from the BJP had a brief exchange of angry words.
After the governor's address, the Speaker announced the names of presiding members of the House and its business advisory committee. The House was adjourned after obituary reference till Tuesday, the day the state Budget for 2023-24 will be presented by finance minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary.
