Goindwal jail murders set alarm bells ringing, Ludhiana prison on alert
The Ludhiana jail authorities said they are keeping a watch over inmates who are from rival groups and trying to keep them in separate cells to avoid any untoward incident.
LUDHIANA: Following murder of two accused, allegedly involved in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, during a gang war in Goindwal jail, the authorities of Ludhiana central jail have been alerted to take precautionary measures to avoid such clashes. The Ludhiana jail authorities said they are keeping a watch over inmates who are from rival groups and trying to keep them in separate cells to avoid any untoward incident.
On Sunday, Mandeep Singh alias Toofan and Manmohan Singh alias Mohna were beaten to death in the jail, while their accomplice Keshav suffered injuries. The duo were close aides of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and were attacked by accomplices of Goldy Brar lodged in the same jail.
Inmates

Superintendent at Ludhiana central jail Shivraj Singh Nandgarh said, "We have about 16 gangsters in Ludhiana jail of different gangs. Besides, there are some local notorious criminals belonging to rival groups. We are checking details of all these gangsters and criminals to separate them to avoid any scuffle. We may also separate the local gang members too. The process is on after the Goindwal incident."
Shivraj said, "If we talk otherwise, one cannot guess when they would indulge in a scuffle. Those who have indulged in a scuffle in Goindwal jail were together earlier and now some of them murdered other two. This is the tendency of such gangs and gang members that they would part ways and then attack each other. However, we are now taking all the precautions."
Earlier on July 9, 2022, Satbir Singh, who was arrested by Ludhiana police for dropping three shooters - including Mandeep Toofan and Mani Rayya - of Moose Wala, to Bathinda in his Toyota Fortuner, was assaulted by a group of fellow inmates in Ludhiana jail. Satbir Singh was given first aid at the jail hospital and then was taken to the Ludhiana civil hospital.
