Behbal morcha may finally end, after 14 months
Bathinda: Having been staged for 14 months, the Behbal Insaaf Morcha — which had been started to seek justice in the October 2015 police firing and sacrilege cases of Punjab — is expected to be lifted on March 5.
The protest, being staged in Faridkot’s Behbal Kalan village, will end as former CM Parkash Singh Badal, his son and former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and other police officials have been named in the chargesheet filed in the October 2015 Kotkapura police firing case.
The Behbal Insaaf Morcha is being staged to seek action against the same accused in the October 14, 2015 killing of Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh, who were protesting over the sacrilege of Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib in neighbouring Bargari village, but were killed when police fired gunshots to restrain the crowd.
Morcha’s members will now head for Akal Takht in Amritsar on March 5 and offer prayers. Before they leave, a congregation will be organised at the protest site on March 4. The morcha said the naming of Badals and Saini in the Kotkapura case was a “big victory”. The morcha said similar action was expected in the Behbal Kalan police firing case.
Krishan Bhagwan’s son Sukhraj Singh had started the protest alone on December 16, 2021, at the bus stand of Behbal Kalan, which is situated on the Bathinda-Amritsar highway where the fatal police firing had taken place. Sukhraj had been sitting on protest all his time.
Sukhraj on Sunday said earlier, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was named as accused in all three cases of sacrilege and now father-son duo of the Badals had been named as accused in Kotkapura firing case.
