Calangute: Garments and other items worth Rs 8 lakh were destroyed in a fire which broke out at a flat near Calangute market on Sunday afternoon. It was the second major fire in Calangute in a week.
Pilerne fire station officials said they received a call at 2.55pm following which they rushed to the spot on the busy Calangute beach road. The fire, suspected to have been caused due to a short-circuit, was brought under control within an hour.
The owner of the flat, Aftab Mulla, said the second-floor flat was being used as a storeroom for readymade garments which he sold from a shop near the Calangute football ground.
Last week, a fire broke out at a club on Baga road on Thursday night, causing extensive damage.
