SHIVAMOGGA: Cyber criminals are using the occasion of the launch of Shivamogga Airport to lure innocent people, especially those who are in search of jobs. The district police have registered two FIRs in connection with cheating in the name of jobs at the airport.
Both these incidents were reported in the last week of January, and the victims approached the police in the first week of February seeking help to get back their money.
Cybercrime, Economic offences, and Narcotics (CEN) police registered the FIRs in connection with cheating in the name of jobs against unknown people who posed as airport ground staff. The police registered a case under IPC 419 and 420.
According to the FIRs, in the first incident, a 25-year-old labour from Shivamogga taluk cheated to the tune of Rs 72,900, while in the second incident the daughter of a 51-year-old driver from Bhadravati taluk was cheated by miscreants.
In both the cases, the victims were approached in the disguise of airport ground staff who were offering jobs. These victims were lured to pay money in the name of various charges for jobs like registration, identity card, document verification, medical examination etc. In both cases, money was transferred online. It is not for the first time that gullible people have been approached with offer of jobs in airports. A few months back, officials from Mysuru Airport had issued a warning against such a modus operandi.
Shivamogga superintendent of police GK Mithun Kumar said that two such cases have been registered. The department is tracking these cases, he said. He said that people have to be responsible and they should not send money to unknown people. He also advised people to approach cyber police stations immediately if they get caught in any cheating incident.
