The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP are contesting the polls on a 40:20 seat-sharing basis. The Congress, which ruled the state till 2003 and does not have any member in the current House, has fielded 23 aspirants.

Meghalaya:  CM Conrad Sangma casts vote, lauds voter turnout

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma cast his vote at Walbakgre -29 polling station in Tura, Garo Hills in the ongoing Assembly polls in the state and exuded confidence in the result being in his favour.

He expressed satisfaction on the voter turnout in the polls and said that this was never seen in the past.

Ramgarh Assembly bypoll

Voting for the bypolls in Jharkhand's Ramgarh assembly constituency began at 7 am on Monday, amid tight security.

Eighteen candidates including 14 Independent candidates are in fray. Voting will continue till 5 pm today.

A total of 405 polling stations have been set up in the Ramgarh by-election, of which 62 are urban and 343 are rural. Over 3.35 lakh voters, including 1.73 lakh men and 1.62 women are eligible to exercise their franchise in the bye-election.

Over 38.68 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Nagaland till 11 am, as polling began amid tight security on Monday, the Election Commission informed.

Meghalaya: Over 10.5% voter turnout recorded till 9 am

Meghalaya recorded a voter turnout of 10.55 per cent till 9 am on Monday, with the polling process being peaceful in the first two hours, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said.

Polling began in 59 of 60 assembly constituencies in the northeastern state at 7 am as 21.6 lakh
