Sugar unit labourer dies in accident in Karnataka

HAVERI: A 19-year-old labourer was killed at VIPN distilleries, at Konanakeri in Shiggaon assembly segment on Saturday evening, after the victim’s hands got stuck in a machine belt.
The deceased is Naveen Chalavadi, who was from Shiggaon taluk, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s assembly segment. Both of Naveen’s hands got cut. He died due to severe bleeding.
Sources said the unit is owned by Vivek Hebbar, who is the son of labour and district minister Shivaram Hebbar. A complaint has been registered against six persons, including Vivek.
