MWC 2023: all the latest from the global mobile tech show

MWC 2023 is nearly upon us - here's what to expect from Mobile World Congress - Barcelona's mobile tech expo

Mobile World Congress MWC Barcelona

It’s phone time! (Very) late February means we turn our full attention to the world of mobile in the form of Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress show, aka MWC 2023. The show is taking place now through to Thursday 2 March.

Last year some companies still decided not to venture to MWC due to Covid concerns so it’ll be interesting to see whether there’s bounceback in terms of who is there. As with CES 2023 though, there is a little bit of a reduced presence as a hangover from those (even) leaner times – we’ve heard that Sony Mobile isn’t there, for example.

As in previous years, some companies prefer separate launch events. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series has already been launched, as has the OnePlus 11. We’re certainly a long way from the times a decade or so ago when most new flagship phones would be launched at the show.

However, there will still be plenty of hardware to check out at the show with launches possible from Honor, Huawei, Lenovo/Moto, Nokia Oppo, Realme and Xiaomi among others. And there will be some interesting tech stories from companies and organisations like ARM, Bluetooth, Google, Intel, MediaTek, Microsoft and Qualcomm – some of these announcements have already emerged as you can see below.

MWC is always a bit of a weird hybrid of a show since not only are there a bunch of product announcements, but it’s also where the mobile industry goes to do business. That means there’s quite a lot of tedious announcements too! That’s where we come in, to cut through the noise and bring you the really great launches. We’re out in Barcelona and we’ll be updating this feature with all the latest stories as they come in.

And if you’re interested in the cream of what was launched last year, check out Stuff’s MWC Awards 2022: The best phones, laptops and highlights.

What to expect from MWC 2023

Here are some other things we definitely know are going to launch at Mobile World Congress.

Honor has confirmed that we’ll be seeing the Magic 5 Pro flagship launch in addition to a previously-announced global launch for the Magic Vs foldable. The foldable was already launched in China at the tail end of last year. We’ve previously gone hands-on with it. And the Magic 5 Lite has already appeared.

OnePlus has teased that it will be launching the OnePlus 11 Concept at the show. The device has a “flowing back” which is basically a Nothing Phone 1-style LED pattern. It does look quite different, resplendent in bright blue. We’re looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. We’re also expecting we might be able to get up close with the previously-announced OnePlus Pad tablet.

Oppo says it “will showcase its extensive exploration of smart living at MWC” which is longhand for “no new products”. We may be able to see its AirGlass 2 AR smart glasses though. Might we also see a teaser for its rumoured upcoming Find X6 Pro flagship?

Realme has announced that the Realme GT3 is going to debut at the show. On social, Realme has confirmed it will ship with incredibly fast 240W charging, too. We’ve already seen that technology launch in the GT Neo 5 in China.
