NITK opens three centres of excellence
Mangaluru: National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, has established three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in line with the National Education Policy-2020.
The centres established are Centre for Sustainable Energy Engineering (CSEE), Centre for Women Welfare and Social Empowerment (CWWSE), and Centre for Public Relations, Information and Media Exchange (C-PRIME).
These CoEs have been designed to provide students with complete knowledge of technical and non-technical fields with access to the most recent research and technology, allowing them to remain at the forefront of their respective professions.
The newly established centres will engage with relevant ministries, industry experts and other higher education institutions, said Prasad Krishna, director (additional charge), NITK, Surathkal.
What these centres do
C-PRIME will focus on the effective use of multiple media platforms and will serve as a hub for information exchange between the institute, its stakeholders, and the public in general, fostering greater collaborations as well as better transparency.
CWWSE is established to assist women in gaining more independence and empowerment. By providing proper resources and assistance, the centre aims at establishing a culture of inclusion and equality in the development of a more varied and productive workforce. It will also strive to empower its members to become active contributors to the nation’s growth and development.
CSEE will provide researchers with a unique avenue to collaborate and share their field-specific expertise.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Union minister for education, skill development, and entrepreneurship, during his visit to the NITK campus for the 20th annual convocation in month of October, had requested the institution to establish a full-fledged sustainable energy department in order to transform NITK Surathkal as a national leader in energy transition within a decade. This led to the establishment of CSEE .
