Congress always insulted its own political figures from Karnataka, says PM Modi

Synopsis

The PM, speaking at an event in Belagavi, said he always respected Kharge for his devotion to public service, while expressing sadness at how the most senior member was not even considered worthy of being given an umbrella in the scorching sun at the Congress plenary session in Chhattisgarh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Congress party always disrespected its tall political figures from Karnataka including the late S Nijalingappa and Veerendra Patil, and now the AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The PM, speaking at an event in Belagavi, said he always respected Kharge for his devotion to public service, while expressing sadness at how the most senior member was not even considered worthy of being given an umbrella in the scorching sun at the Congress plenary session in Chhattisgarh.

It was the Congress party’s tradition to disrespect Karnataka’s political leaders, even those of its own party. History is proof of how leaders like S. Nijalingappa and Virendra Patil ji were insulted before the Congress family… Kharge ji is the Congress President, but the entire world knows who holds the remote control by the way he is treated.”

Many political parties in the country were plagued by `parivarvaad’ (nepotism) and urged voters to stay alert from parties like the Congress and free the country from their clutches.

The PM released the 13th instalment of Rs 16,000 crore under the PM-Kisan scheme to farmers by way of direct benefit transfer (DBT). Such a massive transfer of funds to a large number of farmers without middlemen had drawn worldwide attention, he said.

He drew comparison with the earlier Congress regime and referred to a comment by the then Congress PM that “only 15 paise reaches the poor when 1 rupee is transferred.”

“But this is Modi ki Sarkar”, Modi said and remarked: “Every penny belongs to you, and it is for you.”
