NAGPUR: Yantra India Limited (YIL), the defence PSU created over a couple of years ago, has dispatched a major consignment of military hardware on Saturday. Having its headquarters in Nagpur, the company has been formed out of eight ordnance factories, including the one at Ambajhari. This is the first ever export by the unit at Ambajhari. This is being dubbed to be a major achievement for YIL which has been able to create a global footprint.
The product was not part of the routine items made by YIL. It was tailor made based on the specifications of the buyer. This takes it beyond Atmanirbhar Bharat as the company has been able to take a made in India product which has been produced in line with the needs of a foreign buyer. The factory could come up with a successful product in line with the specifications offered by the buyer within a short time.
YIL now looks forwards for more such contracts. YIL is among the six PSUs formed out of the erstwhile ordnance factory board (OFB). Under the OFB, the factories were part of a government department. Now as PSUs, each of the companies will have to be financially self-reliant. Getting a foothold in the export markets is one of the objectives of the PSUs to increase its turnover.
