PRAYAGRAJ: Authorities of district traffic police have taken up an extensive exercise to study and analyse the prime factors and reasons behind frequent traffic jams witnessed at city’s busiest routes and crossings. The factors include road jams during day or night hours, pattern of jam, particular timing of jams, volume of vehicles during day and night hours, unauthorised parking on streets and other reasons.
There are around 32 stretches across the city that are prone to frequent traffic jams. With the volume of vehicles increasing every day along with unauthorised parking on streets particularly in old city areas, traffic police authorities are drafting plans to improve traffic scenario in city. As per study, the highest number of spots with traffic jams were identified at Johnstonganj, Baihrana, Mutthiganj, Rambagh, Civil Lines, Chowk, Kareli, Leader road, station road, Sulemsarai, Sardar Patel Marg, – Nawab Yusufroad, Laxman market, Teliyarganj, Phaphamau and adjoining streets.
Commissioner of police, Ramit Sharma has directed traffic police authorities to chalk out an effective traffic management plan after studying and analysing the factors responsible for jams and take corrective measures accordingly. The top cop had also assured of a holistic approach to resolve the issues, including strengthening the manpower. District traffic police authorities are also drawing the list of heavy traffic congestion spots in the city which often witness jams due to multiple reasons. These included frequent breaking down of vehicles, accidents, terrible road conditions and unauthorised parking on busy roads. Senior cops are reviewing the status of parking slots – particularly near prime markets zones and signalling systems.
The traffic police authorities are also taking help of ICCC (Integrated Command & Control Centre) to compile all required inputs and chalking out plans accordingly. Officials are of view that use of Google Maps, which shows traffic conditions on roads in real time could be a better idea to improve traffic scenario.
